Irvine Victoria boss wants to finish season on a high

Vics went down 2-1 to Wishaw on Saturday, a result that ended a run of five matches unbeaten in the West of Scotland Football League Fourth Division.

With the Irvine side already assured of promotion, Carson says the game had an end-of-season feel to it.

He said: "We're already promoted, so we are not playing for much, and Wishaw are in a similar position at the bottom of the league.

"I actually thought we played decent but we didn't have that quality in the final third to take something.

"Wishaw are an experienced side in terms of old heads and we were maybe a wee bit naive at times.

"It was a narrow defeat and a draw would have been a fair result, but we gave some game time to boys we haven't used much, so I'm not too disheartened."

Vics, in eighth position in the table, will now pick themselves up for the final game of the season away to Vale of Leven on Saturday, May 16.

Carson wants to see his side end a "really good" season on a high by getting back to winning ways.

He said: "We want to be challenging at the top of the league, and my ambition was to try and win the league.

"We've fallen a bit short of that but it's been a really good season overall. We set our target after we got promoted to win our remaining games.

"We didn't do that at the weekend but I'd love us to get all three points to round off the season on Saturday."
