FIVE Ayrshire golf courses have been named amongst the best 'cheap' locations for a round in the UK and Ireland.
The local spots are listed in Golf World's recent publication of the top 100 options available for £40 or less.
On course came in for particularly high praise and came second top of the entire table.
The first Ayrshire location named on the rankings was Millport on the Isle of Cumbrae, which was rated 77th, with a cost of £35 for a round on weekdays.
The list's author, Chris Bertram, said: "I’ve only played here once to be fair, but it was a tremendous adventure - and not just getting the car ferry over to Cumbrae.
"Seriously entertaining golf for that price."
It was closely followed in the rankings by Girvan, the only course outwith North Ayrshire to be listed.
Coming in at 73rd with a £32 green fee all week, the links course was hailed for its "unique character" and "stunning views across the Scottish coast to Ailsa Craig".
The remaining courses to crack the top 100 are all located on the Isle of Arran, starting with Brodick at 53rd, which costs £40 to play midweek.
"Arran could have all seven of its courses in this list," Chris said. "Here is the least quirky of them, a parkland-links mix which includes a delightful stretch along the water’s edge."
Rated 34th was Corrie, where visitors can pay £20 to play nine holes of £30 for an all-day pass.
Hailed for its "beautiful inland setting", it is said that "the location alone is worth the green fee".
Topping the Ayrshire courses, and coming in at second overall, was Shiskine - where a 12-hole round costs £40 or players can double that for £65.
"Shiskine is a beguiling combination of gorgeous backdrops and holes you absolutely love to take on," Chris said.
"The back-to-back up-and-down par threes - Crow’s Nest and The Shelf - stand out aesthetically, but the blind shots and clever par fours are just as compelling. Twelve glorious holes."
