IRVINE Meadow boss Jamie McKim says his side showed their "ruthless streak" as they returned to winning ways against Shotts Bon Accord.
The North Ayrshire outfit bounced back from consecutive WoSFL Premier Division defeats with a rampant 4-1 victory at Hannah Park on Saturday.
The visitors were two ahead within 20 minutes with Jack Whittaker opening the scoring before Euan Baird added a second.
They also took a man advantage into the interval as the hosts were reduced to 10 just moments before the half-time whistle.
Though it was Shotts who were first to strike after the restart with Marc McKenzie slotting home from the penalty spot.
That wasn't the case for long though with Michael McMullin restoring Meadow's two-goal lead shortly afterwards before Chris MacKay wrapped up all three points in the final 15 minutes.
“It’s a hard place to go," McKim commented. "Not many teams will go to Shotts and have a result like that. It’s a big win.
“If I’m being honest, we were excellent first half when it was 11 v 11. They got a man sent off and I actually thought that rallied them a wee bit.
“In the second half, we weren’t as controlled as we would have liked, although the scoreline would suggest otherwise.
“They have us a couple of problems, I felt if we had more composure and better use of the ball it could have been a bit more dominant from us. Though I’m not going to complain at a 4-1 win away at Shotts.”
Though McKim did admit that he did not feel his side were quite at their best on Saturday.
He added: “We’ve played better and lost. I felt our performances levels against Kilbirnie and Glenafton were better.
“We just showed more of our ruthless streak on Saturday, when we got the chances we took them.
“I think that’s how this league is going to be, it’s going to be that teams are cutting each other up each week.
“Leading into this season, with the strength of the league, you knew that. You can’t get too high when you win or too low when you lose.
“You’re just looking to try and be the most consistent team over the season, that’s going to be hard for everybody.”
A tough week now lies ahead for Meadow who face a home league fixture against Drumchapel United on Tuesday, August 11.
They are at home once again as they take on Arthurlie in the South Challenge Cup on Saturday, August 15.
McKim said: “Both games will be tough, they are both very good sides who have recruited well in the summer.
“We know what we’re coming against and we just need to try be at our best, control the game, dominate the ball and when the chances come, take them.
“We want to win every single game, we will do everything we can to try and progress when the time comes to focus on the cup.”
