ANGRY Irvine Meadow boss Brian McGinty was "embarassed" by his team's display against Darvel last night.

The manager feels they underestimated the East Ayrshire newcomers as the hosts crashed to a 4-2 defeat in the Super League First Division match.

He said: "That was an embarrassing performance. I have praised the players this season since we came here, but we did not show enough respect to Darvel, we need to remember here we have been this season in terms of the postition in the league.

"We just came here and took it too easy. There were bad performances in there as a team. But as I said to them it's one game. We beat Cambuslang the other week and I told them then it wouldn't make or break our season. Our desire to win that game wasn't there."

However he added: "We are not going to the end of the season unbeaten. I knew we would drop points but it's the manner of the performance which disappointed me."

Now he is challenging the players to respond and added: "I know the players will react to this and you sometimes have games where it starts like this and you can't get out of it. We were miles away and didn't deserve the game.

"But the good thing about football is we have another game in three days and we have nine left. We need to now go on another run and that gets you into the playoff places and challenging for promotion. We must re-group and kick on this Saturday. Petershill will come here wanting to win the league. It will be a hard game on Saturday."
