POLICE are investigating a possible link between not one but two disturbances in Irvine earlier today.

They had previously reported that four people had been arrested in connection with a disturbance on Paterson Avenue shortly before 2am on Thursday, July 6.

However, police now say that further enquiries have established that there were in fact two incidents in the area on Thursday morning - the second on nearby Caldon Road.

The Paterson Avenue incident saw a 46-year-old man taken to Crosshouse Hospital and led to the arrest of a 42-year-old man.

Police now say the three other arrests were in relation to a separate incident on Caldon Road shortly after 8am.

That incident led to the arrest of two men, aged 30 and 26, and of a 29-year-old woman.

Enquiries remain ongoing into both disturbances - and police say they are now investigating a potential link between the incidents.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Following further enquiries, officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of two separate incidents in Irvine.
