A popular dessert sold at Waitrose has been recalled due to an ingredient not being declared on the label.
The affected item is the Waitrose Rhubarb Crumble which contains oats (gluten) which are not listed on its packaging.
Shoppers are being warned that the item could be a “possible health risk” to those who have an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten.
Customers with coeliac disease are also at risk.
The recalled item is a 500g box with a use-by date of August 19, 2026, and it has home-freezing instructions to eat it within one month of freezing, so customers are asked to check their freezer for the affected product.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned shoppers “do not eat it.”
Instead, you need to return it to the Waitrose store you bought it from and get a full refund.

Waitrose has apologised to customers: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”

What is an allergy alert?
The FSA explains: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.
“Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk.
“When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
